RimWorld is a deep science-fiction simulation where you don’t simply follow a script — you become its full co-author. The game turns the struggle for survival on a distant planet into a chain of unpredictable events, where every decision has consequences and every colony lives through a unique fate.

From Survival to Prosperity

The story begins with a small group of people who have survived the crash of a spaceship. Before them lies an alien world with a harsh climate, unknown flora, hostile factions, and scarce resources. Your goal is not only to survive, but to build a stable settlement:

  • Organize daily life: establish resource gathering, provide food, and build reliable shelter for your colonists.
  • Ensure defense: construct fortifications to repel attacks.
  • Care for people: support not only physical well-being, but also the mental health of your colonists.

A Living Simulation of Personality

RimWorld’s key strength lies in its deeply developed characters. Each colonist has a unique set of skills, personality traits, and a personal backstory. Settlers form relationships, suffer from stress and depression, or become inspired by success. Illnesses, injuries, and emotions affect gameplay just as strongly as weapon quality or wall thickness. As a result, even a minor everyday issue can trigger a dramatic chain of events.

A Challenge, Not Just a Game

The gameplay seamlessly combines strategic planning with a living simulation. You design your base, research technologies, trade, and send caravans into the wilderness. A dynamic event system constantly challenges you — from visits by peaceful travelers to natural disasters and internal crises. RimWorld does not aim to be “fair” — it aims to be interesting, creating situations where survival depends entirely on your ingenuity.

Accessibility and Inclusion

Thanks to a dedicated accessibility mod, blind players can complete most of the game using speech output and keyboard controls. While the high entry barrier requires time and patience, the game generously rewards thoughtful immersion. There is no rush here: you learn to perceive what is happening as a complex, living system rather than just an image on the screen.

RimWorld is not a game about winning in the traditional sense. It is a generator of human stories, where you guide people and live through the consequences of your own decisions. Every session is unique, because no two colonies ever fall or flourish in the same way.

Accessibility Note

The game supports a dedicated accessibility mod that currently makes approximately 90–95% of the gameplay accessible. The mod is still under development, so the tutorial mode and all expansions are temporarily unavailable.

Getting Started Recommendations

RimWorld has high complexity and many interconnected mechanics. Learning the game takes time and careful study, especially for first-time players.

When selecting characters in the starting menu, pay attention to the top three slots marked as selected. These are the characters that will be sent to the planet. Do not remove these slots — if necessary, swap characters within them.

It is also strongly recommended to review beginner guides in advance to better understand the game’s systems and event logic.

Language and Speech

The mod works with all languages supported by the base game, but its own menu elements are currently available only in English. Localization into other languages is being considered but has not yet been implemented.

If speech output is missing after installation, try placing the mod’s DLL files directly into the game folder rather than the mods directory.

Settings and Assistive Tools

The game language can be changed in the settings. Note that the settings menu is always displayed in English, and in some cases OCR may be required.

Support and Documentation

Installation instructions and a full list of hotkeys can be found in the readme file.
