Hadean Lands is a fantastical parser-based adventure game where you interact with the world by typing text commands, much like old MUD games. You awaken on a damaged spaceship drifting through the void. The crew has vanished, systems are offline, but you possess something more valuable than equipment—alchemy. To escape, you must decipher ancient rituals, combine ingredients, and carefully map out each step. This is not just a text adventure—it’s a world where logic and memory are more important than brute force, and every mistake becomes a new lesson. Can you find the right incantation to piece the ship back together and break free?

Launching Hadean Lands and Screen Reader Support

Hadean Lands is a text adventure featuring a balance of vivid descriptions and concise storytelling. The game contains no sound or music—your imagination must bring the text to life.

There are two ways to launch the game; each method offers different levels of convenience with screen readers:

  1. Browser Mode
    • The standard version runs in a browser, with an integrated console for commands and a separate window for rituals you’ve discovered.
    • Note: Over lengthy play sessions, text in the console may gradually become misread, leading to some difficulties.
  2. Glulx Interpreter File
    • The game folder includes a Glulx file, which can be opened with various interpreters. This method is more compatible with screen readers.
    • TadsWrapper is particularly handy thanks to its built-in accessibility features.
    • The NVDA IF Interpreters add-on automatically reads new text as it appears. You can find this add-on in the NVDA store.

Using a third-party interpreter with screen reader support greatly enhances accessibility, enabling blind players to fully experience the text-based interface.
