Voice Access helps anyone who has difficulty using a touchscreen—such as due to paralysis, tremors, or temporary injury—operate their Android device using voice commands.
Voice Access offers a wide range of voice commands for:
- Basic navigation (e.g., “go back,” “go home,” “open Gmail”)
- Controlling the current screen (e.g., “tap next,” “scroll down”)
- Text editing and dictation (e.g., “type hello,” “replace coffee with tea”)
You can also say “Help” at any time to view a short list of available commands.
Voice Access includes a tutorial that walks you through the most common voice commands (launching Voice Access, tapping, scrolling, basic text editing, and getting help).
You can use Google Assistant to launch Voice Access by saying, “Hey Google, Voice Access.” To do this, “Hey Google” detection must be enabled. You can also tap the Voice Access notification or the blue Voice Access button and begin speaking.
To temporarily pause Voice Access, simply say “stop listening.” To turn it off completely, go to Settings > Accessibility > Voice Access and toggle the switch off.
