Accessibility Features in Upheaval
Upheaval offers extensive accessibility options for players with vision impairments, providing specialized modes for Windows and Android. Follow these instructions to customize the game to your needs:
Windows Accessibility Mode
Two text-to-speech options are available:
- SAPI Narration
- To enable built-in Windows speech synthesis:
- On a keyboard: Press Shift + T.
- On a gamepad: Press both the left and right sticks simultaneously.
- To enable built-in Windows speech synthesis:
- Clipboard Output (for NVDA)
- To use NVDA for text narration:
- Install the NVDA Autoclip add-on.
- Start the game and enable accessibility mode (Shift + T).
- Press Escape and use Tab to navigate to Settings.
- In Audio Settings, go to Text-to-Speech Settings.
- Enable Copy Speech to Clipboard.
- Reduce Voice Volume to zero to avoid overlapping audio.

For full compatibility with screen reader programs, you can also use the console version of the game.
Android Accessibility Mode
On Android, Upheaval uses the system TTS for narration.
- At the first launch, the game may request you to disable the screen reader. If it doesn’t, disable it manually.
- After disabling, triple-tap the screen with three fingers to enable accessibility mode.
Controls for Android
- Swipe right/left: Navigate between text blocks and buttons.
- Swipe up/down: Move through lines within a text block.
